Steps away from Giants Ridge Ski & Golf Resort and the beautiful Wynne Lake. Also on property is a seasonal outdoor swimming pool and hot tub and tennis courts. The word “hygge” is Danish and means to have “a calm and comfortable time with friends and family; an atmosphere of warmth, well-being and coziness, enjoying life’s simple pleasures.” This is exactly the atmosphere we wanted to create for our guests, and perfectly describes the mission of The Hygge Suite - the perfect place to get away from it all. What to expect: Inside you’ll find everything you need for a relaxing break away from the city. Linens and towels provided, pots and pans and dishes etc in the kitchen. Microwave, dishwasher, oven, coffee pot, kettle and washer dryer. We provide a starter set of teas, coffee, dishwasher tablets, laundry detergent and toiletries. Toilet paper, kitchen paper, olive oil, salt and pepper are provided. We haven’t forgotten about the little ones either. We provide a pack n play, feeding set and high chair. There are plenty of games to play under the welcome table, for adults and the little ones. And for the true ‘Hygge’ feel, we have cozy blankets, a gas fire and a whirlpool tub to relax in. Safety Features: We have a dog/child gate on the deck stairs. Carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. A motion detection camera on the front porch. An anti tip device on the tall drawers in the bedroom. Pets: We’re dog parents too and do welcome one large (50lb max) or two small well behaved dogs to The Hygge Suite. We just ask that you respect the property as you would your own place. No dogs on the furniture at any time. They must be leashed outside at all times, and you have to clean up after them. We are understanding that sometimes you may have to leave your dog unattended, we just ask that you cover the sofa with the provided dog blankets and leave the bedroom door closed. The HOA does have rules in place for noise, so if your dog makes too much noise there could be a fine and your dog may be taken to a kennel. Also in this area is a laundry room with washer, dryer, sink and iron. From there you walk out to the fire pit and then down to 140 ft of shoreline. The lake shore slopes gradually up to the cabin with easy access for snowmobiles. There are hundreds of miles of trails just across the lake. Northern Minnesota averages over 100 inches of snow every year. The trails run through the pristine Superior National Forrest and have multiple locations for fuel, food and fun along the way. The trails offer a dynamic path along the streams and large forested areas. Cross-country ski, snow-shoe, go ice fishing or snowmobile across the lake in the winter. Why not rent a home? We are fortunate to have one of these well-preserved structures at the Green Gate property, and have masterfully updated it into a unique, historic home. We believe big things can come in small packages. The Log Cabin is a comfortable and very well-equipped home in a small footprint. This 1890s hand-hewn log cabin has been beautifully updated into a modern, cozy space. The 15' x 15' floorplan includes a kitchen, dining table, sofa and wood stove, plus a full bathroom neatly tucked below the loft staircase. Thanks to the Norwegian owner (who also happens to be an engineer), this Finnish log cabin is equipped with modern mechanicals including air conditioning, in-floor heat, and a high-efficiency tankless water heater for endless hot water. To complete your log cabin experience, there is also a gorgeous glass-fronted wood stove and always a full supply of firewood available During your stay. The well-appointed kitchen on the main floor includes a 2-burner gas cooktop, farm sink, concrete countertops, an undercounter refrigerator/freezer, coffemaker, teapot, and cookware/serving ware for 2-3 guests. A microwave and countertop convection oven are also provided in the nearby closet should you need them. This 18x32 hand-hewn log cabin was dismantled and moved from a neighboring farmstead to the Green Gate property in 2016. We added an upper floor, super-insulated shell and a rustic exterior of weathered, circle-sawn planking and rusty metal roofing. The mix of log construction, custom metalwork, and "hand-crafted everything" create a truly breathtaking architectural experience. The house isn't new, and I'm always doing something around the place (I set the tools aside and leave before you arrive, of course!). Seriously, in my eyes, it's my lovely old home, and there's always something to work on. One of the outbuilding's needs an over-haul, and that will begin sometime after the new year. However, I make sure anything I have going on doesn't get in your way. What else about the place? Well, it’s easy to find, and there’s plenty of parking for boat, ATV, and snowmobile trailers. That's always nice. Oh, and it's legal to drive ATV's on the county roads here, so it's common to see what we call "side-by-sides" passing by on the road. The house is on 19 acres that backs up to the Lake Superior National Forest. You will have your privacy during your stay. I am happy to meet you if you'd like, but most times guests like to let themselves in, and that's fine. I am not too far away if you need something. You are more than welcome to use my canoe to visit the local lakes. There are canoe pads and straps to transport the canoe to whatever local body-of-water you'd like to visit. There are life jackets in the garage as well. If you’d like a campfire out by the picnic table, the firewood is in the garage, as is the charcoal grill. Also before you book: understand that you are coming here to be away from the urban landscape. Your cellphone may become sketchy (Anything AT&T is great), and you are going to drive a bit to get back to the city. Local "attractions" such as Gooseberry and Split Rock Lighthouse are NOT in the backyard. Those of us who live here think absolutely nothing of driving to the North Shore or Duluth for the day (or every day). We also think nothing of driving to the Iron Range or Ely and back. However, I would like to insist that all potential guests study a map. I do not want guests to book a stay here and then be shocked how far it is from town. That said, Duluth is an hour south; the North Shore of Lake Superior is a truly scenic drive 30 minutes east, and the historic Iron Range begins 30 minutes west. All your travel to these destinations is on paved, well-maintained roads. And all travel times depend on weather conditions of course. Popular Destinations are generally an hour or less away. Two Harbors is 45 minutes away, Split Rock Lighthouse & Gooseberry Falls are both an hour’s drive. The Alpine Slide and breathtaking gondola ride at Lutsen Mts is a scenic hour-and-a-half drive. You’ll see all that’s beautiful about this area between here and there! (Likely some wildlife, too) Golfers: Giants Ridge is 40 minutes, Hoyt Lakes Golf Course is 20 minutes, and Lakeview National Golf Course in Two Harbors is 45 minutes away. Skiers: Giants Ridge 40 minutes, Mother Bear Ski Trails (classic) 15 minutes, Erkki Harju Ski Trail in Two Harbors 45 minutes, Korkki Nordic nearer Duluth is 1 hour away. Speaking of Giant’s Ridge, did you know they have bike trails and rent mountain bikes of all sizes? Sounds like a fun day! They also offer down-hill snow-tubing in the winter which is an absolute blast. Snowmobilers: It is a scenic 8 mile ride on your sleds to the local snowmobile trail, or trailer to a near-by access point within 30 minutes. Speaking of snow, I will plow the driveway in the case of a "snow-event." Also, since the house is off of a major road-way, it gets plowed relatively quickly by the county snow plow. That said, there will be a shovel and broom handy for you to clean off the porch and sidewalk to get yourself out to your vehicle. Some guests have asked if it is okay to pitch a tent in the yard or bring a camper. Yes! You are welcome to do either. Come visit Babbitt and it's beautiful surroundings in this cozy 2 bedroom home! This house sleeps 5 and has been furnished to meet your vacation getaway needs. We are centrally located in town which lines this house up for easy access to hiking and snowmobile/ATV trails. Birch Lake is just minutes away with two different accesses located near by! Ely and the BWCAW are a quick jaunt at just over 15 miles away. Not to mention, a city park with a playground is right in the back yard! This house offers plenty of parking space for vehicles, trailers, and other needs. We like to have a two night minimum for all our guests!

Our Grandparents purchased this beautiful summer cottage, in 1938. In 1989, our father, an Architect, renovated it, added a gourmet kitchen, and a master suite, with a bunk room, below. It was their primary home for 20 years. The house sits high on a peninsula that runs perfectly north and south. The sun rises over the a beautiful vista of the lake on one side, and sets over the dock and swim beach on the other. The property spans the peninsula, and is filled with mature Norway and White Pines, and stately Maples. The house has a gradual walk way including 16 steps from the parking area up to the front door. The house is a combination of an old cottage with beautiful varnished pine and a big open fire place, and a modern architecturally designed home. Full of family heirlooms, Persian rugs and fine furnishings, this is a gorgeous cottage in an incredible setting. The property is located on Ely Lake, three miles south of Eveleth. A crystal clear lake, with a sugar sand beach, perfect for swimming, paddle boarding, or just enjoying the view from the dock bench.
